John DEERE MAGneto ...HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Hi will a magneto from a B model john deer work on a A model.New to tractors.But just got a old twin,and i got no spark,the points are ok.We pulled the mag off awhile back,and i'm not sure if there was a wire that connected what looks to be a wire hookup out side the mag,it has a threaded bolt with 2 nuts onit,but i cant find a wire 2 hook it to..Any thing i can checkout on my magneto,to check for spark"BEENCH check maybe"?Am i missing a wire?It's a wico model x.
spec..XH-cant make out first number of 4 digits #042 HELP...

Thanks for the response.The threaded screw out the side of the mag is connected,to the points tension spring.Shouldn't i be abel to put my mag in a vice and turn it slow with my drill to check for spark?Anything i should check my mag for?A guy said sumthin about a jumper wire,anyone know if there is such a thing in the mag.Seems i remember sumthin about coil clearence to.the guy i got it from has not found the manual yet.So any input helps thanks.....

The place with the taps on the side of magneto were for a wire to hook to and it ran to an on-off switch some where that the driver could reach it to kill engine, or that is the way the older Farmall Ih's were, and I assume that the Jd's had them also.

Yes, the mag from an "A" should bolt right on a "B" and work fine, and vice versa. The same basic mag will work on most of the Waterloo two-cylinders, as long as they're using the flange-mounted style. I believe some of the "D"s used a base-mounted style that is quite a bit different.
