I shall be visiting the USA from mid July to the End of August. The intention is to spend time with family in Pennsylvania who live not far from the EBT Railroad. From there I shall be driving up to Niagara Fall and then back to PA via Main and New England.

I would like to know if there are any tractor museums or shows that I could visit on the way, any suggestions would be most welcome.

Here is a museum of old tractor's that is on the way to Niagra Falls from PA. I have not been to it but have been by there several times. have planed on taking it in just have not done it yet. No reason not to its only about 70 miles from me. I have seen articals about it in some farm mags. they have over 100 tractors from what I here. Tired Iron Tractor Museum

On July 19 and 20, which may be a little early for you, the Quinebaug Valley Engineers will have a two day show at a farm with a lot of tractors, equipment, and demonstrations. There will be a swap meet too. This is at the Zagray Farm Museum just a couple of miles north of Colchester, CT. on RT 85. If the rain stops this will be a good one I think.

The big problem with comming to the northeast and driving through or by the cities or even near them is the carzy driving. Cars going along at carzy speeds bumper to bumper, no space between, cutting in and out. Lucky there aren't more of the pile ups that are becomming more and more common. News had a whole list of accidents the other day when it rained. Fools couldn't slow down enough to prevent hydroplaining. Just watch it around the cities, try to avoid them anytime near morining or afternoon rush commute.

If you are anywhere near Woodstock, New Hampshire on July 19, I'd love to have you stop at my little show. I wish I knew the secret for getting it listed on this website.

If you end up driving 495 around Boston to get to and from Maine, the Pepperell MA show is July 13. I stopped by there late morning last year, alot of Farmalls.

A word of caution in the US. In the south they are still cranky about the outcome of the civil war. They may think you are a d*mmed Yankee and rough you up. They call chips = "french or freedom fries", wellies = rubber boots, lorry = truck, boot= trunk, bonnet=hood, they drive on the right side so don't get run over crossing the street and they serve beer cold. A request for bangers and mash in restaurants along with spotted dick will draw blank stares or get yourself kicked out. All in all however the colonies are a fine place to visit. The percent of the population that is middle class and own their own large properties/vehicles will be a surprise. The time an distance just to cross a state let alone the country takes so getting used to as well. A trip to Canada will find lots of Liz and Phil fans.

well,,,,we would be the yanks now wouldn't we. and i'm sure we would make anyone from the mother country welcome(most of us in the South are of English blood). We only use the D word for people that think themselves superior, don't want to fit in, but will not leave.

but,i would not suggest he visits THE SOUTH this time of year with the heat and humid conditions.

Well, I resemble your remark about the war of "Northern Agression". As I recall, the British were pretty much on "our" side and he should find a warm welcome South of the Mason-Dixon line and..... ..I agree we do talk funny. We're NOT still cranky about the "War"; never fought but one war in our whole history and we lost that; who else can say that??? Guess the French could come close..... .....

You got me a thinkin that the queen's subjects might not be welcome here. Now, that ain't sayin I'm castin a doubt to yer verbage an all. Lord knows you can rite well 'nough. My guess is that you think this here fella is noblemen type. "Not me" I sez. That Limey needs some slack thrown his way. He might not give a tinkers damn about tha outcome of wars pastd. He may just have a hankerin at alookin at what a tractor ought to look like, and if I do admit, the way them U.S.of A. tractors work like.

I do like how you put that though.

Rough & Tumble Engineers will hold their 55th annual Threshermans Reunion August 13-16 in Kinzers, Pa. It's in eastern Lancaster County, not too far from East Broad Top. Steam engines of all types, gas engines large and small, old tractors, trucks & cars. As diverse a collection of old machinery and oddities as you will see anywhere.
Hope you enjoy your trip to the United States.
