I think this has been discussed before but I can't find it on here. Does anyone know the difference between the new Super All Traction II's and the old Super All Traction's? I just had a friend call me and said he had jsut bought a set of the II's for about $800 less than the original SAT. Same ply and size at the same dealer. He said the tread was a little farther apart on the II's but that was the only visable difference. I was thinking that I had read somewhere that the SAT II's had replaced the SAT's. The way I understand it now that was not true. Both are still being produced.

Thanks for the info guys. I haven't seen the two side by side to compare them. I think I'll look at spending more money and get the SAT's when I have to get tires.

Sounds like SAT lite.

The SAT II's are also lighter in weight and thinner than the SAT tires. When you roll one across the floor, you can see every lug flex on the inside when it meets the floor. Like Mike and CumminsMan said the lugs are not as deep and they are farther apart. Also they are not as wide on the face and not as high. Actually they are a piece of crap. I have both bias and radial SAT's and always liked them very much. Even the old All Traction Field and Road were far superior to the SAT II's. So much for progress...Ron

Do they still make the field and roads?

I was told by a Firestone representative at a farm show a few years ago that the original Super All Traction tire was going to be phased out. He said there were basically two tire markets, one being the "replacement" (read: cheap) bias tire and the other the premium (radial) market. The original SAT tire was too expensive for the replacement market and being it was a bias tire didn't fit the premium market, either. It was cheapened into the SAT II and according to this representative the SAT was going to be done away with in a few years. Whether this got done I am not sure, but that was the Firestone story a year or two ago. Mike

SAT II is a cheaper made tire. Tread not as deep and bars farther apart. SAT will wear twice as long as the SAT II and ride better doing it.
