I"ve got a guy lined up to tow my Major 35 miles for a good price, nothing! The thing is I"m not sure if it will do any damage to the transmission, the guy plans to use an old 1 ton wrecker so the back wheels on the tractor will be rolling. Anyone know if this will be all right, and what would be the maximum speed to tow it?

What speed are the tires rated for? I don't think it would be 60 mph but I could be wrong.

Towing the Major is no different to driving it as long as you don't go over about 20 mph. I have a 1952 Major and have driven it on 120 mile trips and also towed it on two 200 mile trips.

I also drive it on 60 mile trips to working days.

Just make sure that there is oil in the rear axle and don't get the front too high off the ground.

Make sure the brakes are free and the transmission hand brake (if fitted) is well off.

Good luck.

Jeff, I would suggest that you only tow it at no more than 20-25 kpm as I have heard of them being towed faster and the rear end gets very hot. That is an E27N major, Iam not sure about the later ones. However having said that the old Fordsons are pretty tough.
