Hello all,
I have contacted a local person who has some ford diesel engines for sale. He states that they are 256 and 268 cubic inches. That doesn't mean a whole lot to me. They are diesels. Does anyone know the specifics of these engines (model #, HP, etc) and whether or not they would fit in a Fordson Major?
Thanks.

The Fordson Major engine is 220 cubic inch. Having no more information than you were able to provide, I would be inclined to suggest it would be quite an effort to build an adaptor plate and try and get the clutch/transmission to mesh. Rebuild kits are available for the Dagenham 220 CID engine on this site, as well as a Classifieds section to seek the possibility of another Fordson EnFo engine.

Don,
Thanks for the info. I know that Bareco sells complete rebuild kits for the Major. As a matter of fact, I am helping a friend do a complete rebuild on a Super Major right now, using all Bareco parts. So far, with the exception of one set of rings, the parts have been excellent. My problem is that I am looking for something to put in my Major to continue using it while rebuilding the current engine. I would hate to not have the Major (and the hydraulic loader mounted on it) available.

I have a 1958 Major that is for sale and currently worth $600.The head is in the shop getting seats and such.Let me know if you are interested.I am in Oregon, USA.The block and head have no cracks but lower end should be rebuilt. It does run.Steven B. stated earlier on this site the motors that swap into the Fordson New Majors.Maybe someone knows the SAE size for Majors but I don't.

Mark,
You have exactly what I am looking for, but unfortunately I live in PA. Your price sounds very fair, but shipping from Oregon to PA would most likely be outragous. If you were a little closer, I would buy that whole tractor off of you!

Possible 5? You are a lucky man! I would like to find one around here to buy for a spare or for parts, but they are rare, and those that you can find are priced sky-high. That's life though.
My engine is still running, but it has been getting weaker the last few years. Oil pressure drops to 15 to 20lbs after running for a while, and it does have some blow-by. I love that old tractor, and I want to rebuild the motor, but as it is the only utility tractor on my brother's farm, we cannot take it out of service for any length of time. I would like to find another engine and rebuild it if necessary, swap it into the major, and then rebuild the original. I have come to the conclusion that I am probably dreaming, but I have to keep looking.

Thanks for the info!
I just sent them an email.
Take a look at their website, in the used equipment section. They have a County 6!
