I dropped a valve in my 6 cyl. major (with 2703e engine in it) and wrecked the cylinder head & piston etc. Therefore I wan"t to replace the engine but there seem to be a huge range of ford 2700 engines available. I want to know whether any of the 2700 range will be a direct replacement/fit or whether I should look out for specific models?
Also, is it O.K. to use an inclined / horizontal engine out of a truck and mount it vertically in the tractor?

You can use any of the engines, including the slant truck engines. You will need to swap oil pick up, sump and front mounts as well as exaust manifold. The later engines from the Cargo truck range have some changes but I am sure they will fit. I would go for the 380 CID (6.2 liter) non turbo.

ON THE CARGO ENGINES THE OIL PUMP IS MOUNTED AT THE FRONT AND TAKES DRIVE FROM THE TIMING GEARS THIS MAKES THE ENGINE A FEW INCHES LONGER THAN A D SERIS ENGINE.THE PICKUP PIPE ON THE OIL PUMP IS MADE OF ALUMINIUM AND WILL NEED TO BE CUT AND WELDED. YOU WILL HAVE TO USE CARGO SUMP AND REWELD TO SUIT USE UPRIGHT.
