I've got to move my '57 Major about 35 miles. I was thinking of renting a u-haul tow dolly or even making up a tow-bar and bolting it on. Hiring a tilt and load truck is out of the question... $100.00!!! Does anyone know if this will hurt the transmission? I've read other items concerning this topic but the opinions are mixed to say the least.

Why not just drive it?

It might take a little while, but by the time youve made up a tow bar for it, probably wont take that much longer. should only be a 2 hour job to drive it there.

If you towed it at 5 mph or less you might be safe. That would take 7 hours? I would not try it personally. You would not want to lose control of your tractor and have it jack knife and roll, etc. I have used a 12k gross trailer plus a 1 ton truck to pull it. Even with that I have had brake fade on the down hill side of some of the longer 6% grades on one trip with the 7k+ FSM.
