Hi,
I need to replace the rear axle oil seal on a Dexta (The inner one) ... again :-(. I'd like to use a modern double liped neoprene seal rather than the traditional leather item.

Can anyone tell me the diameter of the hole in the axle housing where the seal is held by a pressed fit. Memory says it will be between 2.75" and 3". I know the shaft is 2.125".

Thanks

David

Just a comment about leather seals- generally they seal better than modern seals especially where there is a bit of wear or movement in the shaft and they also tend to cope better if the tractor is left standing for long periods especially if a worn shaft is likely to sag or move off centre. Still it shouldnt be a problem on a regularly used example.
Sorry i cant help with the seal dimensions at the moment.

Thanks for the comments. I guess my experience of the leather seals on an old car and in this Dexta have not been as favourable. The neoprene, double lipped seals on the other hand have worked a treat.

One thing I routinely do when replacing an oil seal on a old shaft is fit a speady sleeve ... that gives a pristine running surface for the seal lip so may explain my different experience.

cheers
David
