Just bought a PM yesterday...Probably dumb question....but to start you simply turn on key, push starter lever down and starter should engage? If nothing happens and battery is known good..What's potentially wrong?

Another question...Do all PowerMajor's have live PTO or was this an option

Thanks

Your starting should work as described. There is a solonoid near the air cleaner under the hood. You can manualy operate this as there is a button in the middle of it. To start you need the lever down at the same time but you can test by just pressing, the statrer will spin. MAKE SURE THE TRACTOR IS NOT IN GEAR. It may start and run you over.

Live drive on Power Majors and Super Majors was an option. In Australia where I live it was offerd as standard and non live drive was a special order at reduced cost.

Thanks Steven for the info. I ordered a new solenoid today from NH.

I bought tractor at auction and they had drained water because it was leaking into oil. The tractor started OK so I am hoping that it is either the o-ring cylinder-block seal or head gasket. The s/n of the tractor is 1494045 which makes it a 12/58 mnufacture date. Can I tell which head gasket to buy from this number or do I need to disassemble to find out. There is 3 different head gaskets listed for this date range.

Also it has two different headlights...There is one that looks original with flat lens..Is this correct?

The flat lens is correct.

I dont want to put a curse on you but I would say its a 99.999% chance that its the o rings and not the head gasket. If you check the archives I have posted how to make the tool to remove the sleeves. Usualy just replacing o rings wont work as the sleeves pit realy bad. Dont dispair though. In frame rebuild kits are inexpensive and they are a good tractor. A gasket set is included and gasket sets by them selves are not so cheap when compared to what you get in a kit. Worth repairing if it runs ok.

Steven,

I did a search for the info you posted on removing sleeves.

Do you have any favorite suppliers to purchase the in frame rebuild kits you speak of? What kit will I require for this tractor?

Thanks...From Canada

Not sure on scource in Canada. I use Bareco and they have a dealer in the US. Go to www.bareco.com.au and follow the links to the US site. The Aussie site lists the part numbers. There is a link to a US supplier on the left of this page but I had a look and they seemed a little expensive.

I live in Australia and I just paid A$780.00 for a full kit with a new crankshaft for a Super Major. The kit less crank was about A$560 and in frame was about A$450.
