From the vintage photo section and posts on Discussion Boards, I think I've located a Fordson made in the early 1920s. But I'm wondering if I've identified a correct Ser. #. It's stamped on a slightly raised portion of the block, just to the right of the first spark plug (the one farthest away from the radiator). It reads, D28 -& there's a third number or letter, either a 7 or maybe an A. Do you think I have a complete serial number, and if so, when might it have been built. Many Thanks.

John --

The Fordson Model F's have the serial number stamped into the engine block, near the front (closest to the radiator). Look right above the fourth bolt that holds the intake/exhaust manifold on. It's usually a good idea to keep a toothbrush-sized wire brush handy by, because the numbers are often filled in with either paint, grease and/or dirt and thus are hard to make out.

Once you have the serial number, you can look it up on the InterNet -- there are several Websites which equate the number to the production year. If you need help, let me know & I'll do what I can.

I checked the engine block and after some scraping saw the following written on 3 lines: Ford F (barely legible) 133 DR High Compression
Do you think the "133DR" is all there was to the serial number. many thanks. jc

John,
That is the part number on the cylinder head. The serial number will be on the block. It is on the right hand side, near the front. On the machined manifold surface, between the front two ports. If the engine is very rusty, the number may not be readable.

Thanks for your prompt reply - next Monday I'll be able to check the tractor and will search for ser # in correct place & may get back with you. Appreciate your help.
