HAS ANYONE CHANGED THE SEAEL BEHIND THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY? IS IT VERY HARD TO BREAK THE RATCHET BOLT? IS IT POSIBLE TO DO IT WITHOUT BREAK THE FRONT OFF THE TRACTOR? DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO GET THE SEAL? ARE FORD DEALERS ABLE TO ORDER IT?
THANKS,
RON DOW

I assume you are speaking of a Major. I was able to use a box end wrench and a hammer somewhat as an impact wrench to start the turn of the bolt. You do not need to split the tractor to remove the pulley. When I did mine BOTH sizes were available from Ford New Holland. There are two sizes depending on year/model. ALSO, note that on my FSM the timing cover must be removed as the seal is flanged on the inside. That too was no problem. Just expect to deal with that gasket. If FNH does not have the seal a bearing/seal supply house can match it from an industrial dimension reference. I removed the radiator to perform this and it's quite easy with so much space. I hope this all helps. It's MUCH easier than the rear seal. I know! Bill S.

Ron, One little correction to my earlier info. The seal is not flanged, the cast aluminum timing cover has an internal flange or shoulder that still requires installing the seal from the inside of the cover after removal. You may by now have discovered that and finished the job. I just felt the need to correct my mistake. Bill S.
