I have a fordson tool box with small script on it and would like to know if the two small holes on the top lid are for a handle or are they a modification ?

The two small holes on top are a modification.

Often when a farmer sold or junked his Fordson tractor, he'd remove the tool box (to store his tools in, of course). And since a tool box is easier to carry with a handle on top, many farmers fashioned crude handles and riveted them to the top.

You see these all the time on eBay; they usually go for $15-25.

The fordson toolbox with the small letters was unique to the 1918 and 1919 tractors. During 1919 they went to the large lettered box. They are quite hard to find in nice condition. Even yours with holes in the top will bring a premium on ebay. Actually the entire box is different not just the lid. Try to examine another and compare.

Re value of Fordson items. Listen to Butch, he really knows the value of rare or hard to find Fordson pieces. He just has a short memory.
