I have the opportunity to buy an old fordson tractor that runs. It does not have the fenders. I am new to the world of tractors and need feedback. The asking price is $2500.00. Is this too much? How do I find parts for this tractor? What are some key things I should look for in determining the quality of the tractor as well as any other tips. Thanks Paul

I have a 1923 , I think , I want to redo it , I need to know who to talk to about redoing the engine bearings (rods and mains). Babbit , I assume , Unless someone sharp has converted to a Clevite 77 type .

That's on the high side, but I paid more for a real nice one that had the original tools, was barn-kept and had the original manual plus all parts. Just needed new exhaust valves and guides.

For that price, you're expecting all original parts to be there and in decent/repairable shape. Make sure that the original vaporizer (carburetor) is there, no cracks in block, radiator is good and not stopped-up or leaking, clutch engages well and all gears sound good. Also check compression to see if you are close to spec (about 60 psi as I recall). Parts for these old girls are very expensive. You can check out parts prices online at The Fordson House at www.thefordsonhouse.com. Email if you have more questions.

Thank you for your feedback. Do you own a fordson tractor or have restored one? Paul
