Hi

I have a non-live drive dexta (single clutch).
When I engage the clutch at higher speeds occasionally it fails to do anything untill i tap the brakes when it immediatly engages!? I also have trouble selecting gears sometimes and find the gears get stuck, is this a worn lever end??
Many Thanks for any help!

Tristan

The braking system and the clutch are two seperate systems. One should have no affect on the other. However, if you have the parking latch set with the brake depressed it could be retarding your foward progress. When you tap the brake it should release the pawl which releases the "parking brake".
As to the clutch, the only routine adjustment is that for "free travel". This is, the initial movement of the pedal from the fully engaged position, pedal against the stop bracket, to the point where clutch resistance is felt. When correctly adjusted this movement should be 3/4" measured at the pedal pad.
At higher engine speeds when greater torque is applied, centrifugal force tends to move the weighted outer ends of the release lever towards the flywheel. This action should only supplement the spring loading on the pressure plate and therefore the disc.
Additionally, the end of your shift lever is most likely worn.
If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.
