John the rear seal is usually a no problem fix. Did you clean the area??? Sometimes the residue oil will drip for awhile after a fix as the oil gets hot and cleans the bellhousing. A couple of things I have either done wrong or have seen done wrong are, 1. cutting the new seal too short, thereby leaving a slight gap that won't seal 2. leaving the seal ends too long, thereby not letting the caps come completely closed and leaking past the seal. 3. breaking the gasket that goes between the seal retainer and the engine block. When I put in a new rear seal I put the seal into the caps and soak them over night or at least several hours in clean oil to let the seal soak and swell. Then I cut the new ends off with snips so there is about 1/8th" of the new seal sticking up out of the caps. Then I clean the oil off the caps and put a very thin swipe of high temp silicone on the cap ends and engine side of the caps.
