1959 fordson dexta double clutch.Engine has been reconnected after overhaul. Clutch was in prime condition and had been trouble free. The engine has not yet been running but I note that the clutch is not disengaging to free the drive to the transmission.Should I resplit to investigate or can the clutch free itself on engine restart?
Has anyone experienced this problem?

Many times, with old, but functional clutches, while stabbing and connecting the engine, the rivets in the clutch tear, and give no release symptoms you describe. I'd investigate.

Thanks from Ireland to Wayne B. for clutch advice. Our mistake in assembly may show the wisdom of using a well designed splitting rail for accurate refitting of engine to transmission.I had, in fact bought wheels and axle to construct same but couldn't settle on a good design. The crane I had borrowed seems to be a replica of the one shown on your website. Perhaps someone can give plan and dimensions for a good splitting rail.
