Clutch on my 59 dexta will not disengage properly.
It is a small mysteri , it almost disengage with the clutch pedal halfway down but with the pedal completely down it will sometimes not work at all.
If I continously drive the tractor the clutch works , but if I leave the tractor for some minutes and try to drive the clutch will not work

Is there oil leaking out from the weep holes underneath her? No untoward noises? My guess is your clutches are covered in oil. Have fun replacing them or spend $1200 australian buying a complete set up from a Bareco Outlet ( they dont sell direct to the public ). Replacing the friction plates are not that hard. Get an I&T manual. Dont worry about the special service tools. Use the old throw out bearing in a press to compress the reassembled unit( complete with new friction plates ) to ensure the transmission clutch releases from the pressure plate before the PTO clutch fingers come into contact with the bearing ( use feeler guages ). Adjustment is via six bolts that are on top of the individual clutch fingers. A valve spring compression tool is the only different tool you'll need to pull the clutch apart. See my response to the previous clutch question. If I can do it just about anyone can.

I've never heard of a clutch costing that much. Here in USA you can buy the whole kittin ca bodle for under $500.00. Just ask Wayne he can tell you where to get one. I put a drive clutch in mine last year for $100.00. It wasn't all that hard. If you need any help just holler.

Capp.... There's only 38 or so US cents in an Australian dollar..... ..1200 Aussie $'s doesnt sound so much now does it? The friction plates are worth around $100 Australian...thats about $38 US isnt it? Oh & the $1200 was not exchange either... it was the whole " kit and kaboodle"...

BUGGAR....couldnt have got that more wrong could I? .... Exchange rate is currently 60 US cents to the Aussie dollar. I was thinking UK pounds when I wrote the last post. I suppose that still makes a clutch for the dexta expensive here in OZ compared to in the US.

Yes, Cap, mine had a bent clutch arm. No regrets about replacing the entire unit. Best price I found was Gulf South, about $350 after core return, etc. The details and even pictures can be found on my Dexta website.

I have put well over 60 hard high-clutching hours on my tractor, after the clutch job, and the flawless performance is money in the bank.

I'm in the final days of bush-hoging, tree pulling and root-raking of 7 acres converted from woods overgrowth to pasture. Work about every PM till dark and weekends to meet my April-May Coastal Bermuda sprigging window.

Now would not be the time for a maintenance problem with my Dexta workhorse.

And it isn't.

Wayne
