Hi, my father 'n' Law has a 1955-1960 Fordson super major diesel and he is wondering if there is an oil filter in the hydroilcs? If so where is it located? Thanks

Removing 4 bolts on a round plate with a drain plug under the back end gains you access to the hydraulic filter. It's a cylindical screen that drops out when you remove the plate. MY 3 Pt would not lift so I just cleaned mine on a 61 FSM that was so clogged the screen has collapsed. Good thing to check it before it gets to this stage. Only drawback is that you have to drain off 10-1/2 gals of TDH fluid first.

There is a filter above where you drain the oil from in the rear axle, i think its the wire mesh type. There should be an access plate, i think the drain plug is in the middle of it. Hope this helps.

My 1963 FSM has a paper filter (#NC5NNN832C) which I recently replaced. Got the new one from Ford New Holland and it also fits other models of Ford tractors. I think it was about $8.35 US. I don't think you could reach it from the bottom, I did mine from the top. The old one was coming apart. Bill S.

Yes I don't know much about the later models of majors, i didnt realise yours was 1963. I own a 1956 major and thats why the filters different. I have a magazine with a article on fordson majors from 1951-1964, lists everything about them, all changes through the years according to the engine numbers, and all the specs of the diffeent models, the problems, everything. Its on a 2001 edition of tractor and machinery, i think it is the september edition, if you're interested. I probably should have consulted this before answering your question.
Cheers
