I have a 1969 County Super Six that is getting coolant in the oil. I pulled the head off and the gasket looked perfect, I suspected a sleeve problem and pulled the pan and the sleeves are not rusted at all, nor is there any sign of leakage around the base of the sleeves. Are these engines prone to internal cracking? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Dane, I would suspect the O rings on the bottom of the sleeves, I’ve seen a couple tractors with this problem. If the engine had water in it instead of antifreeze, it tends to rust and pit the area around the O ring. If your old head gasket is not to trashed, use it to temporarily bolt the head back on, using a air regulator GENTLY pressurize the coolant system up to about 10 to 13 Psi. now with the oilpan off take a look up at the bottom of the sleeves for leaks. If the O rings are the problem, before reassembling scrape around in the O ring grove in the block, checking for scale or rust pits. If it is pitted smear some RTV in the grove before installing the O ring, and give it a day to cure before filling with coolant.

The o-rings are leaking, thanks for the tip.
