I need to repair the front axle center suport on my 59 Dexta. Anyone have a good site to get these parts from? I don't have a manual yet so any words of warning or wisdom would be helpfull.
Thanks Don

Hey Don I did what Wayne did and it lasted along time. Last year I did a complete overhaul on the old girl and had this fixed to. It's best to unbolt it from the motor and get the pin out although yours may be worn enough you won't have to do this. I bought some parts from a company called www.bare-co.com and they were resonable, and great to deal with you might give them a try. When Zaffer gets his distributor here in USA stocked up you you might get them off him. I had to take mine to a machine shop and have it line bored and a new pin and bushing put in with a grease fitting. Dexta's don't come with a grease fitting, so the grease worms eat mine up. It's doing fine now. Wayne has the best idea if your that far from town and need it all year long. Does yours steer hard with the bucket loaded. I know me and Wayne have been tossing it around to get a power steering unit off of Zaffer. I was wondering how yours done? Well you all have a good Christmas and New years. Capbuster

Hi! I replaced the front bushing on our 1959 Dexta with one I purchased from our local NH dealer "about the only reasonable priced part" but had to shop around a bit for another pin, it was not an easy piece to find. I spent about $45 on a bushing and a good used pin you might try Roberts tractor parts in Camden Ohio he is parting a few Dextas and is reasonable in price and a fast shipper to!

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like a bigger job than I want to tackle now. The barn is too cold this time of year.
I picked the Dexta about a month ago at an auction for a good price. It had the loader off because it had a broken shaft to the pump in front of the engine. That must have scared the other bidders off. They might have known more than I. I replaced the shaft and all was good.
I used the loader to clean out a horse corral. It is hard to steer! Almost impossible if the wheels are not moving. I think some of this may be due to the oil in the stereing box. As noted earlier it is cold around here, a warm day today almost 20 F. It also has a shernan C8 backhoe on the back so if you are thinking adding balast to the back better add a lot. Been following the powerstereing threads here and it is on my wish list.
I was moving snow with the loader the other day. the bucket dug in and lifted the front wheels off the ground, then dropped quickly. Now I know why the shaft was broken. I will move the hydralic lines to the backhoe pump till I have time to fix the front end properly.
The loader is a heavy old wagner not a pipe frame type.
Thanks Don

I will try to send you a picture. I am having some email problems so will try at work tomorrow.
Just remember these are the before pictures. If you have a place to post them feel free to.
I got it at an action for $1700. A half desent lawn tractor went for more than that. I put 3 new hoses on the backhoe and it seems to work fine. will have to change more before I am comfortable with it. The ground is too frozen to do much now anyway.
I will move the loader lines to the rear pump this week. Then we will see what breaks next.
Thanks Don

While there is a still part number for the center king pin, Ford-New Holland does not sell the part. I exhausted my luck finding one, and brazed my up and ground it back down smooth and put it back together.

You can get the axle bushing from bearing resource shops; most every town I go to has one of these industrial bearing shops.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. The closest town of that might have a bearing place is 100 miles away. Do you know the size? How much work was involved in your project? I plan to order a manual after the holidays. That should give me an idea what to expect.

Thanks Don

Using Oxy-Acetylene, I simply brazed the worn (low) areas and filled in the kingpin, then used a bench grinder to smooth it down to match the unworn areas. Took me about 30 minutes, all totalled. I eyed it to it was near the right size the inserted it in the axle till I found the fit I needed.

EZ job.

Thanks again for the reply. Sorry for asking so many questions. I can handle the brazzing part. Do I need to remove the radiator and shroud to have room to get the pin out? What holds the pin in place? I have a loader, that is probably why this is worn out.

Thanks Don

Depends.

Depends on how tight your pin is. Remove the bolted retainer on the front of the axle. Get the weight off your front axle, balance lifting it just till the pin has free-pin.

Use the retainer slot in the pin and pry the pin out. Insert a spacer behind your pry and pry again. Repeat this until the pin is out.

The axle has a bushing in it which is replaceable, however most likely at a machine shop or you must disassemble axle and use an arbor press. I did not replace mine.

With my build up, I had a tolorable (while just slightly loose) fit. When the tractor weight went back on it, it was good.

Subject: Loader drive shaft.

You mentioned you replaced the loader drive shaft.

"It had the loader off because it had a broken shaft to the pump in front of the engine....I replaced the shaft and all was good."

I too have an old Wagner, but the splined shaft that came with mine is too short, is 10 teeth and the spline receiver on my front pulley is 6 teeth.

I definitely be interested in where you got this part.

I got the shaft at the New Holland dealer in Idaho Falls Id. It is 6 spline. They had 2 six spline shafts in stock. My shaft is 11 inches long. They had 13inch and shorter than 11. Sorry I don't remember but I think it was 9 inch. I cut down the 13 and had a friend mill a stot for a key. The part # was 194354. The damage was $22.42. They said this was a very common part so you should be able to get one locally. They also have agco parts but this is a NH number. If you do need to get them the phone # is 208-533-7291. I would run over and get you one but they are 100 miles from here. They will send me parts UPS so I guess they could send them anywhere. They were very helpfull and knoledgeable on the phone.

Good luck,Don

Thanks, Now, I went to our local NH dealer and there book did not even show 6 splines anymore. I may just call them and have them ship it to me.

Again, thanks. Happy Holidays.

Yes, Engine runs GREAT!

My clutch worked bad, intermittenly, then not at all, and after pulling, found an exploded drive disk on the dual clutch.

Dealers are proud of this part! For New Holland wanted $683

I used Gulf South, at about half the above price.

So, loader is a project away...
