On my 61 diesel Dexta, the exhaust goes through a hole in the bonnet. But I'm not for sure if that's the original exhaust.

The original manifoild, was it the one with a exhaust elbow, that goes down and under the hood and comes up beside the bonnet or was it original with the manifoild that goes straight up through a hole in the bonnet?

In advance, thanks!

I have a '59 Dexta Diesel with the original thru-the-hood pipe, but my friend has a '58 Dexta Diesel with the underswept elbow, that has been recently converted to a tall pipe for hay fields.

These were options through the years.

regards, Greyson.

I also have a 61. My exhaust runs down and out under the footboard on the left side. How does the hood open around the muffler?

8ndexta-ger,
with my dexta, exhaust through the bonnet, you have to pull the muffler off to open the bonnet. It means that you try not to need to open the bonnet when the muffler is hot or you use your hat to pull it off so you don't get burnt.

Diesel Dexta goes thru hood. Gasoline dexta uses elbow.

Australian Diesel Dextas have a elbow, dont know why but I have a Super Dexta and so has my mate. Both are the same, no hole in the hood and an elbow. I assume it may have somthing to do with the spark arrester muffler that was law at the time.

Steven,
I have a dexta and live in Australia and my exhaust goes through a hole in the hood. I know that the underswept exhaust was an option on some tractors, so maybe the ones with an elbow have been converted from an underswept to a vertical exhaust.

P.S. there is a picture of my tractor in the photo section of this website, posted about a week or two ago. Just do a search for dexta and it should be the top one.

Regards,
Damon

You could be right but I dont think that the undersweapt exahust was ever available in Aus. Standard exaust was that huge spark arrestor type. Note my tractor is a Super Dexta, I havnt paid any attention to Aussie Dextas.

Carlton,
the pictures of the dextas on Oscar's web site also have the exhaust going through the bonnet.

Carlton,
I have a diesel dexta, still unsure of year as I have not found the serial number. The exhaust on mine goes straight up through a hole in the bonnet. It looks like the original set up.

Damon

Hey Damon, to find the serial number on your dexta is purdy easy. Just look to where your fuel filter housing is, then look to the right a few inches, to where your bell housing connects to the motor. Running vertical down the flange will be a number. It may be covered over with grease or paint, but this is where it is. Get this number and go to Oscars site and match it up with serial numbers on his site. You can find out what model it is then and more. See ya.

Capbuster,
I have a listing of the serial number for the dextas from Oscar great web site but as of yet have not really looked for the serial number. Too busy having fun using the tractor I think, I am also worried about taking too much paint of the flange looking for the number as it looks like it really is burried under a lot of paint.

I will get the wire brush out this weekend and have a look as your instructions will save me from stripping paint off everything.

Thanks Capbuster, I will let you know the details when I findthe serial number.

Regards,
Damon
