HELP! Tough Shifting on Model F

My Model F is tough to get into gear. Lot of grinding (a lot) and I almost have to jam it into gear (yes, clutch is fully pushed down and I idle the engine back). Have been told this is normal with an oil bath clutch and the shifting will become easier with use. Have not had the opportunity to drive it a lot, so it's hard for me to judge the accuracy of that claim. Is this true or do I have a problem? The current grinding when I attempt to put it into gear really bothers me and makes me think I'm a shift away from doing some real damage.

I had the same problem with mine. I pulled the steering gear off and repaired all of the wear points on the release linkage. This solved my problem, and it now shifts much more smoothly.

How tough is the release linkage to get to (assume you mean the clutch release linkage)? How did you recognize and repair the wear points. Looked in my manuals for the connection between the steering gear and the release linkage and couldn't find it. Am a new Model F owner so please forgive the questions if they are dumb

As a follow-up (I've been reading archived material from this forum on the subject): the tractor does stop when the clutch is pressed.
