Po Folks,

Don replied to Tommy D. on the Ford Board the following:

Tommy: The 'Fordson' tractor was the first Ford tractor produced by Henry Ford. Henry was beaten to the punch by a group of entrepreneurs, one of whom was named Ford to the rights to the name Ford tractor. Henry didn't blink, he named his tractor the 'Ford son', which stood for Henry Ford and Son (Edsel Ford was the son). The Fordson tractor was produced as a separate entity of Ford under the name Fordson until Ford World Operations merged in late 1964, at which time the Fordson works were merged with Ford World Operations and the Fordson was no longer produced. The Fordson Super Major became the Ford 5000 and the Fordson Dexta became the Ford 2000. Fordson tractors were commercially produced from 1918 until 1964 but were only produced in the USA from 1918 til late 1927. Henry needed plant space to build the new Model A car for 1928 and Fordson tractors were produced in Cork Ireland and eventually Dagenham, England. Hope this helps - End of Don's reply.

Got to run, dinner is on - like Don said, Hope this helps. JoeD
