I know this is a bit of a silly question but I was wondering what the dexta/super dexta tractors are like? Easy to work on, reliability, ability to do small ploughing operations and the size of plough best suited.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Damon

I finally purchased a dexta in quite good condition. It has a lot of non-original items but runs well. Hopefully I will not need this board too much as I hope to be working with the tractor not working on the tractor.

Regards,
Damon

Excellent tractors-the Dexta is about 31 HP, the Super and 2000 Dexta about 40 HP. Have had both. Pull 3-14's well. Ford tractor dealers have most parts still. Try for a Super or 2000 Dexta. Have a mechanical governor on th eengine, the older ones have a vacuum type. They were nicknamed "the Baby Blue Ox". Won;t quit pulling. They have more power than rated. Good Luck! Mike

I purchased my super dexta in Nov. 1963 and have run it almost daily ever since. The only major repair was a new head installed about 1975. Evidently cracked heads weren't unusual on those perkins in those days. Otherwise , it has been one of the most dependable tractors this farm has ever seen. Would buy another in a heartbeat if it was in reasonable shape.

I'd describe the Dexta as a muscular 8n Ford. I do everything with it. Plow (twofurrow), haybine, and bale (square bales). Also pull the 8N out of where ever I get it stuck (often).

Know what you are getting into. You will have a hard time finding parts in the US(sheet metal, steering components).

Hey Damon,
I have a 1960 fordson dexta and I really like it. It has a 3 cyl perkins desel and it is a great motor. Fun to operate doing anything from plowing to raking hay. It's easy to work on especially if you can ask Burrhead some tech question. If you have any questions just ask him.
