Eng. Oil / Hyd Oil/ Gearbox and Rear Transmission

For the Engine, I am told to 30 SAE HD above 90 deg F.; 20 SAE HD from 20 to 90 deg F.; and 10 SAE HD for below 20 deg F. Since I live in North Texas, 20 to 30 is my target according to these books, but seeing your posts I'm not so sure. My wife and I are about to begin tackling our 1960 Dexta this winter, and I want to be sure I'm using the right stuff.

My first concern is the Engine, as I need to change the oil and filter this weekend so that I can get some work done prior to winter and the teardown/re-build. What oil should I use in the Engine? Do any of you have alternate filter #'s than the Ford # I have (6731)?

I would also be interested in this Oscar reference manual and any others that you have found helpful. Thanks for indulging my simple questions, and I look forward to your responses.

Walmart and AutoZone both usually have it in stock. I run straight 90W gear oil in both gear boxes year round and it does good. I'm 50 miles east of the Dome.

I don't remember which Fram number is which filter but one of the Fram # is fuel and the other is oil.

I talked with the guys at New Holland, and they have the filter in stock for $6.95 and it comes with the filter gasket. However, my Ford part manual shows to smaller gaskets that go above and below the filter (they are #'d 18689); the guy told me they dont carry these. I am worried that once I remove the old filter other things (like these gaskets) may need replaced; should I be worried? Where can I get parts like these? Will i just have to try and match them up against some other gasket?

The bottom one seals the filter to the stem and the top one seals it to the housing.

The oil and fuel filters both should have the rubber attached to the filters from the factory.

After changing the oil and preparing my "wife" for mowing our pasture, she heard a loud POP and exhaust was spewing out on every stroke of the pistons. I have determined that one of the brass seals under the exhaust manifold compression chamber caps broke. These seals appear to be stamped brass, and I found them in my parts manual, but I worry that they may not be available at the New Holland dealer. If they aren't available, do you have any recommendations for locating these simple, but needed, parts? There should be a shop here in the Dallas / Fort Worth area; but your inputs would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Any pretty good machine shop around here usually has them in stock.
