I recently restored a super dexta and when doing so i found it had no thermostat or pressure cap. I added these to it and now when i fill the cooling system up and run it for a few minutes the water comes pouring out the top. then if i leave it over night the water level drops till i can only just see it through the filler. but if i topp it up i does the same.

should i fill it to the top or till i can just see it.

Any ideas please.

James, Are you in the U.K.? As far as I'm aware Dextas destined for the U.K. market weren't fitted with a pressure cap, only export models. I think you are over filling with water - just try running with the water level where you can just see it, the water will find it's own level.
Peter.

James - I think you'll find that you are over-filling her. As long as you can see the level she's ok. By the way , make sure that your rad fins are clean as the fins are very closely spaced and it takes very little to plug those passages. I purchased my super new in Nov. of 1963 , they are great little tractors. Mine has been used for every thing from combining to corn chopping with Ford's little two row harvester and manure loading.
