1920 FORDSON F ENGINE OIL AND COOLING SYSTEM

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT ENGINE OIL CAN BE USED IN THIS TRACTOR. ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF BARS-LEAK CAN BE USED IN THIS TRACTOR, TO SEAL MINOR LEAKS IN THE COOLING SYSTEM. THE LEAKS ARE NOT IN THE HEAD OR BLOCK, BUT ONLY IN THE GASKET AREAS BETWEEN THE RADIATOR AND THE HEAD/BLOCK CONNECTIONS.

BY THE WAY, THIS HOLLEY VAPORIZOR SYSTEM WOKS GREAT.
THE TRACTOR STARTS AND RUNS EXCELLENT.

If the crankcase has been cleaned use a diesel rated 15w-40 oil, all i ever use.

I have used a type od Bars leak before, works good, i get the tractor good and hot so the water is boiling and dump it in. only thing is you cannot drain the coolant for winter. the sealer drys up and your leak might return. so use antifreeze after the sealer has sealer the leak.

do you run your tractor on kerosene or #1 diesel fuel???

THANK YOU ADAM.

I AM RUNNING ON GAS SO FAR, BUT I CAN RUN ON KEROSENE AT ANY TIME. I HAVE FOUND THAT THE GAS IS BETTER FOR EASE OF USE WHEN JUST PUTTING AROUND AT SHOWS AND SUCH. IF I WERE TO USE IT FOR PLOWING OR OTHER HEAVY WORK, THEN KEROSENE IS BETTER. I'M NOT SURE WHETHER IT MATTERS OR NOT TO USE #1 DIESEL OR KEROSENE.

I use #1 diesel when i can, it is anywhere from .25 to .50 cheaper then kerosene. runs the same if not a little better. I like to run on fuel oil at shows. makes a interesting starting demo and shows that it still can be done!

Interesting side note: I have never seen any John Deere or IHC tractor of the same era run on kerosene, always gas. I guess in that respect i might stand out a little bit!

HEY ADAM, YOUR RIGHT! I WENT AHEAD AND SWITCHED OVER TO KEROSENE AFTER STARTING ON GAS, AND IT ACTUALLY RUNS EVEN SMOOTHER. I ATTRIBUTE THIS TO THE SPRAY NOZZLE SIZE WHICH IS SIZED FOR KEROSENE / DIESEL FUEL VISCOSITY. I LOVE MY OLD "F". I WENT TO A BIG ANTIQUE TRACTOR SHOW IN MASON, MICHIGAN AND THERE WAS NOT ONE FORDSON, LET ALONE AN ORIGINAL LIKE OURS. ISN'T IT GREAT?
