Which year Fordson Major are you refering to? The early model Majors (E27N) had the engine no's on the right side front of the block just below the head. On the last of the E27N's the no is stamped on the right side of the flange which joins the rear of the motor to the front of the gear box housing. It is at about 2 o'clock looking towards the front of the tractor. At this point there is also a gear ratio stamped on the rear flange, do not confuse the two.

Many thanks Sharpeb,I think I,ve found the serial No.S185076.Have you any idea of the YEAR etc.
I found the number on the right side front of block so I guess it's an early model.

I am not sure about the age from your serial no. From the list I have the first 1945 models start at around no 980520 and go to the last in 1952 at serial no 1216575. Your no could be that the engine was replaced with a reconditioned engine whose nos began at 0001 in 1949 upto no 84640 in 1952. However I would suggest that you look at the casting nos on the left side of the block looking forward or the left side of the gear box housing. The block nos may be hidden by a tool box on some versions. An example of this may be B12N which was Feb 12th 1949. The years and months are as follows H=1945 J=46 K=47 L=48 N=49 P= 50 S=51 T=52 - months are A=Jan B=Feb C=Mar D=APR F=May H=Jun J=Jul K=Aug L=Sept M=Oct N=Nov P=Dec
