I purchased a Major diezel last fall and cannot find the serial number to identify the tractor. I was told from the original owner is approximately a 1960. I see different serial numbers on it, such as 6050J J3167 on the engine, and E1ADDN 4025 on the base of hydrolics. Can someone help me identify the year and model ?
Also, I need to change the headgasket, it leaks badly. Where can I get the specs & instructions to change it myself ?
Thanks.

I Have a Fordson Major Diesel that I haven't been able to find a serial # on. The local Tractor parts told me it is on Or near the flywheel on the left side of the tractor. Also My tractor is a front wheel assist that all looks to be orignal, from England. Any body with any Information on my tractor, year, model, and value.

Thanks Bill. I still cannot find such serial number on the tractor & would like to pursue the search for the year. I am left without answer.
Also, is there any way I can find a step by step descritpion on how to replace a headgasket. I know this site provide video casset applicable to other Ford model (on gas engines) but was wondering if any books and or documents can be available to teach me how to perform it.

The serial numbers is located on a pad at the front right hand side of the engine cylinder block.A 1960 will be 1538065 to 1580199. I have a major that has a industrial engine,if yours is one of these, the numbers starts with a S. For parts one good place is Stevens Ag Parts. There ph number is 1-800-333-9143. I do hope this will help.

When you can get a I&T shop service manual they are well worth the money. It will answer a lot of your questions. The one that I have is a FO-201, it covers my Super Dexta and the Super Major and many other Fordsons. Call
1-800-262-1095 to find the closest dealer that will have one. The mumber 08C969949 is a good number. The tractor was made August of 1963. A good web site is Oscar's Fordson page @fordson.freeweb.nl/home.htm. I do not know of any videos, but the manual will be of lots of help, hope this will help.

Bill, I read carefully & found what I beleive now is the tractor serial number: 08C969949.
Also, the # at the clutch casting is E1ADDN 4024 T1 3H21.
These numbers do not fit within the ranges supplied for a Major Diesel from 1951 to 1958.
What do I have ?
Thanks
Pierre

The 08C indicates 1963 Fordson Super Major. I am not sure of the production month. I have one as well....If you can, supply some pics. Mine is in pieces right now, but hope to have her running by the end of summer!! Parts are kinda hard to find, but they are available. There are suppliers in Europe and Australia that can get most of the parts. There are also a few tractor salvage yards that can get you the parts that are particularly hard to find. Those coming from the salvage yards are usually used, but good condition! Every time I call my New Holland dealership, I usally get a snicker or two when I tell them what I have, although on occasion they do have access to the parts.

Good luck, and if you need any help, I am very limited on my knowledge, but I will be happy to supply what knowledge I have!!

By the way, Oscar's Fordson Page at Link has a very active bulletin board dedicated to the Major line of production. Oscar and Brian are both VERY knowledgeable and willing to help. They used to post here, but we had a rash of virus attacks that sent them to the other site.
