Where will i find the serial number for my Fordson Power Major?

Also how can i then use this to find out when it was made and register the tractor?

If the power major is anything like the standard new major then you will find there is an engine number, and that counts as the serial number. You will find this on the right hand side of the engine, near ish the thermostat housing, but on the actual block, not the cylinderhead. On my major its on a little rectangular piece of metal and looks like its been egraved in. Theres also the clutch casting code, using this you can check if the tracto has had another engine put in it, this is on the left hand side of the tractor on the flat of the housing, this number is castwith the casting, and is in a stretched o shape like below. (about 3/4 inch long) ____ (____)

All you need to do is find people who know what the casting code dates corrrespond to,my only contact who knows that lives in Devon, in UK. You can check how original all your components are with this method.

Thanks I'll have a look tonight and post them tomorrow and see if anyone can help me date it. If I every get round to rebuilding the engine and restoring the whole thing i will probably need these numbers to re register it with the DVLA.

Ross - you'll find a link to a serial number key on the left hand side of this page - or if you put it on the Board, I can look it up in a listing I have that will give month/year of production. Regards - Bob
