Smoking FPM What could be the problem?

I have a Fordson Power Major diesel that smokes pretty badly on start up but once it has been running for a while it cleans up. When it is idling it has a little bit of smoke regardless of how warm or how long it has been running. It does not use a lot of oil, in fact I only top it up once a year. What I would like to know is if this is a sign of glazed bores or some injector timing required or maybe something else. Thanks in advance.

A little bit of smoke at idle is normal. These tractors were meant to work not to sit there just idlin.

Normally white or grey smoke means, that there´s water in the waste gas. Could be caused by crack in the block or head or by a shot head gasket.
Did you check coolant and engineoil, if there´s oil or water in it?
