I found a 1925 Fordson F in the woods the other day. No Radiator, bad gas tank, missing coil. Owner says I can have it if I pull it away. I looked on the Web, there seems to be no used parts houses for these tractors! With 850,000 made in 10 years, where did all the old ones go? Are they extinct?

I know where there is an orignal 1919 to 1925 Fordson tractor: intact. I am not sure of the year, but somewhere in there,

'Probably a lot of them burned up..!!

My Grandad use to tell us about them being awful to start in the Winter... He said he had to build a GOOD Fire under it, to warm it up so it would start..!! I really don't think he liked that tractor much.!! He also told us about " throwing the Governors in the Fence", and how it pulled better then..!! He used to use a Model "A" Ford to "Buzz wood", using a rear wheel to drive the belt--until the rear-end locked, and it "took off across the field"....!! Great True stories.!!

They're like old Molines-The JD guys all have one home in the shed, while they bring their JD's to shows and park in the row with all the other green ones.
'course I can understand. Why turn a crank when you can spin a flywheel?

now seriously, there are quite a few fordsons out there, but the generation that knew them as working tractors is fast passing. And those who are left aren't up to cranking tractors that were know to be troublesome half a century ago.

Also, here in the nited Stated many "heavy Things" went for scrap around the timeof the Vietnam War. Scrap was bringing very high prices. Such wonderull things dissappeared as 1925 Cadillacs and Packards. They would bring more money for scrap than as a running item for sale! Same with the old farm implements.

Hey, I think that WW-II took most of our fordsons. Here is what a old man told me years ago. He was a junk man all of his life and I bought 2 fordsons from him. He said just before WWII that scrapping was great. He would take a sledge hammer to the rears to get to the bronze drive gear. If the gear was in good shape they could sell it complete for over the price of scrap and a few years later found out why. When WWII broke out he joined the merchant marines and when he got to noticeing some of the winches on the ships they were using fordson rear end bronze gears. He said it was cheaper to make the iron castings to match the gear then to make the gear itself. Made since to me. He also said that before pearle harbor he was taking some scrap to a yard and a old black man told him he didn't understand why we were selling all of this scrap overseas to Japan and other contries because all they were going to do is throw it back at us. Two weeks later Japan hit pearle harbor. Now I don't know if any of this is true. I don't even know if we were exporting scrap back then, but thats what he said and it also makes since to me. Before we entered WWII, we sold shiploads of scrap iron to japan, they were already fighting in China, heard a story once, one of the first planes we shot down had a patched up american engine evidentally salvaged from the scrap heap. John in Ne.

We have a 1964 Fordson Tractor, 65hp, 9N diesel w/backhoe attached. The back hoe sat up against a tree for over ten years and the tree grew into the backhoe. What a fun time getting it out!!
Looks just like a dinosaur when the backhoe is extended, but she is a worker when she is working.

There are more Fordsons out there than you think! I bought a 23 fordson from the great granddaughter of the original owner. Unfortunately it had been sitting in the dirt and those darn "metal termites" ate a good portion of the wheel rims. It took a while, but just talking to some "tractor guys" one day I told them about my Fordson problem. They directed me to "Mike" who just happened to have the wheels as well as a good radiator and airbox. I not only got my parts, but made one fine friend. In otherwords, be patient when looking for parts. They are out there.Locating the parts is only half the fun, as you will meet some great people in the process. I've also gotten parts off Ebay, at antique car swap meets, from Rosewood Machine and The Fordson House. If you see someone with parts up for auction on Ebay- Email them, see if they have any of the parts you need or know some-one who does.
Hope this helps!

Several months ago a friend told me of an old tractor sitting in the woods. This tractor had steel wheels. Today I went to look at it and found a very old Fordson. I don't know much about them. It must have had a wood steering wheel because the round portion was gone. The handle for the crank was also missing. It is pretty much intact. The mag appeared to be the only thing gone. My grandfather started farming in W. Pa. with a Fordson in the very early '30s. I remember my uncle telling how it could be a real pain to work with. I would like to know where to find a serial #. I have tried to make contact with the people who may be the owners. If I don't have any luck I will have to be content with some still shots and some video. It would be great to have a piece of history like that.

You can find the serial # on the block by the front of the intake-exhaust manifolds. might have to scratch a little to find it. Hope this helps you out.
