Can anyone help in identifying the age of my neighbours newly aquired Fordson E27N. The serial# on the LH side of the block shows E27N 6016. All the serial number list I have found would suggest that this number should have at least 6 numbers. This tractor has 13 x 26 tyres and is located in Australia. Is there a list of English Fordson Serial Numbers. Most seem to be from the USA. Thanks.

Thanks for the follow up to my request for the manufacture date of an Fordson E27N. The suggestion about casting numbers which show 1946 and 1947 would suggest it was made about 1947. Andrew has suggested that the number is stamped on the engine mounting flange on the manifold side. There are no numbers there. There are some numbers on the gearbox side but they don't tally with anything. This tractor is a petrol/kero.

I wouldn't bother with the engine no.unless it is the original engine. On the gearbox flange you will find on the gearboxside the box ratio either4.3 or7.5.On the engine side you will find the engine no. to match that by the manifold. If it has an "R" stamped after it means you have a ford reconditioned engine. This will give you false info so ignore the number and check casting codes as suggested in my last post.Happy hunting.

You gave number 6016. It could be last 4 characters of the serial number. I think that tractor is made in 1951 (serial number 118610-1216574). If it made in -51, it's one of the last E27N's ever made. The last (1216990) was made at January 17th 1952, it was Row Crop P6-diesel. In Australia Fordsons imported in parts and was putted together in there. In every tractor is a plate, where is the date when it was putted together.

The number you give sounds like a part number. Check for a number stamped around the flange that joins the engine to the gearbox. It will be on the manifold side and on the engine side flange. It will be a number from about 990 000 upwards! You will probably have to scrape off some muck to read it.
Check out www.angelfire.com/ny/buzzcoil/page12.html for dates.
Hope this helps.
