First of all you ned to identify the type of injector pump your engine is fitted with.
Tractors built prior to April 1962 have a Simms pneumatic governed injector pump. Tractors built after April 1962 have a Simms Minimec mechananicaly governed injector pump.

Identify the pump in the following way:
1. Throttle linkage conects to a butterfly on the intake manifold, pneumatic governed. (Referd to as Simms type)

2. Throttle linkage conected directly to injector pump, Minimec type pump. (Referd to as Minimec Type)

Method of timing is the same for both types.

Set up as follows:

1. Remove timing mark cover from sump/flywheel cover on injector pump side of engine just below the chassis rail.

2. Rotate engine with no1 piston on compressinon stroke until timing marks line up, 23deg BTDC for Simms type and 21deg BTDC for Minimec type.

3. Slaken the bolts on the injector drive coupling and adjust the coupling so that the marks line up with the pointer (on top for Minimec, on the side for Simms).

4. Tighten bolts and replace cover.

This is how you determine if no 1 is on compression. If the pump has not been removed look for the timing mark on the injector pump coupling to appear near the pointer on the pump. If the pump has been removed you wil need to observe no1 inlet and exaust valves closing with the rocker cover removed.

I rotate the engine by rocking the starter to get in the area then I use a large screwdriver on the ring gear through the timing mark apature. If your engine has a decompression lever, use it and rotate with the fan.

Good luck
