TH, Have checked the plate. I have one on my Major but had not noticed it. No that's wrong. Just overlooked it. Case of familiarity and it takes a question like yours to make us stop and rethink things. On some Majors there are three plates in this area. One that says: Fordson Major, and a small one with the serial number. The plate you refer to gives the oil specs. for engine, gear box and rear axle. It then includes the cold start sequence for which ever tractor you have. Mine being petrol/kerosine, it explains the settings for mainfold baffle, fuel tap, choke and throttle positions, radiator shutters etc. The wording is exactly the same as the tractor hand book. The diesel plate explains how to use the decompressor, cold start etc. again exactly as the hand book details it. Thanks again for making me look twice. It will also remind others that even if they have no hand book, Fordson tractors have all the basic information there on the tractor. (At least the earlier versions have). regards Brian
