Super Dexta Oil Leak

Well, the 'refurbishment' of my Performance Super Dexta is going well but I have an annoying oil leak - not that large but annoying all the same. There is a shaft that goes transversly through the gearbox - in one side and out the other - used for connecting the brake pedal to the left rear brake. An amazing (!) design. The oil leak is on the right side facing front - presumably at the oil seal between the shaft and the gearbox casing. Does anyone know whether the seal can be replaced without getting inside the gearbox ? If the shaft can be pushed partially through, the seal withdrawn and replaced, and then the shaft pushed back through the new seal, it would be great. Failing this does anyone have any ideas about how to stop such a leak without pulling everything apart ? Thanks.

The brake shaft goes though the clutch housing
not the tranny so there shouldn't be anny oil leak
there (that is if your sure you have a Dexta not a FMD or FSM)
Could be the clutch housing drain hole is plugged
and is full with oil from the tranny??

Thanks Stephan, now thats very interesting. I thought that I had verified exactly what I had. It looks like a Dexta, the manual says its a Dexta, but the numbers dont match ! It was assembled in Australia in 1964 and delivered in 1965 but does not have a number on the usual flange - rather a plate just like a car with 4FFB and a number 100,000 or so (I dont have the exact number with me now). As far as I can see the shaft runs through the transmission - almost level with the front of the fuel tank but low down of course about 25cms in front of the brake pedal. Is the FMD different ?

Thats a Dexta!
With the Majors the shaft runs trough the rear end
just behind the flange that bolts the rear end to the tranny.
With the the Dexta the shaft runs trough the clutch housing there shoudn't be any oil in there, therefore no seals. Dit you check the drain hole under the clutch housing??

No not yet but it will be first on my list of things to do when I get home (Thursday). I will follow up then. Thanks for all that. Richard.
