I have purchased a Super Dexta - or so I thought. It looks like one, it has everything it says in the manual except it has a conventional handbrake and a small plate riveted on the left side. The plate says "Ford Motor Company of Australia 4FFD 100767" Super Dextas (I am told) ceased production in 1964 with a number 09D 928248. What documentation I have suggests a 1965 delivery date. Can anyone help ? What have I got here ?

Richard

Australian tractors have two build dates. The first is the date the tractor was built at Dagenham and the second is the date the tractor was assembled in Geelong. I have a 1962 Super Major and a 1962 Super Dexta. Both tractors have 1963 Australian build dates on the "Ford Motor Company of Australia" ID plate.

Australian tractors have localy sourced wheels, tyres and exhaust systems. Your tractor is a 1964 model.

Thanks for that Steven - that's useful. But what about the number 100767 ? Does that indicate that Ford used a totally different set of numbers in Australia ? The tractor does not appear to carry any of the expected (UK) series of numbers in the usual places. Any idea what 4FFD means ? Richard.

Yes Ford Australia used a seperate set of model numbers. My truck for example is a 542E, In the UK thats a 7 ton Diesel long wheal base. On the ID tag it has another number thats Aussie specific. The same applies to D series trucks. Just use the UK engine number when ordering parts. Yours is one of the last "New Performance" Super Dextas made.
