Hello everyone

I am buying a Fordson 2000 Super Dexta with the Perkins 3 cyl diesel engine. I have an opportunity to add on a front end loader made by Massey Ferguson. The loader model no. is 100. Does anyone here have any advice or experience with adding a loader from one manufacturer onto a tractor made by another?

Thanks.

Bill

Bill,
If your loader looks like Stephen's it may be because the loader was made by a company called Steelfab here in the UK. They made the loaders for nearly all manufacturers and painted them what ever colour required. The only real diferences were the fitting brackets.

Do you really need a front mounted pump? If the Super Dexta is a live drive, why not tap the hydraulic lift? it would be far easier.

regards

Brian

Hi Brian

Thanks for the input. The tractor was delivered today, and with a few quick measurements, it looks like all will go together fairly easily. There is even a hole in the grill ready made for the shaft from the pump to the crank. I think it will be just a matter of lining up holes and getting the right bolts.

Of course, I have to sell my John Deere 400 with its loader before I can buy this one.

I'll try to get a few pictures of the tractor tomorrow and post them on my website.

If you go to the photo section of this site and search "Fordson", there is a 1963 Super Major that I had with a MF FEL that we fitted over a week end. The Dexta's dimensions are close to a MF35X.

Thanks Steven. When you did the work, was there any serious cutting and fitting involved? Did you need to do any welding in the process? The picture looks great. The loader looks very similar to the one I saw (maybe the same?)

When I was lookng at the loader yesterday, there was a pump on the front end of it that attaches to the crankshaft of the tractor by means of an extension bar. It has a disk for a MF on the front. I am wondering if I need to find a different one for the Ford.

Any details you could supply would be gratefully accepted, and a very big help.

This is all from memory, I fitted that loader in 1984/5. The loader came of an industrial MF 3 cylinder (about the size of a MF135) that had a solid cast radiator shroud that suported the front of the loader. That was indeed a UK built industrial loader that was factory fitted to the MF. All rams were double acting.

The loader bolted up to the rear axle using the mud guard (fender) bolts. We removed the 3pl check chain brackets, The check chains attached to the loader frame. At the front we made a steel frame that bolted to the cast front of the super major. No cutting of the tractor or loader was required but we welded the brackets up from solid plate steel. This frame extanded up the side of the tin super radiator shroud. (look at the picture) We initiaaly used the tractors hydraulic pump but the flow was way to slow (about 4.5 gallons per min) for that type of loader so we then put a front mounted pump that deliverd about 12 gpm.

I have a Super Dexta and Super Major so I will have a look on Saturday and see if I can give you more advice.

Thanks Steven! I really appreciate all the info you have given me so far. It all sounds very encouraging for getting these two pieces to fit together. I do not have much experience in metal work, and no welding equipment, (I am a woodworker by profession) but there is a farmer about 1.5 miles down the road from me who does welding and machine work on the side.

I haven't gotten any pics yet, but I hope to be posting a few shortly.
