hello Burr!

sorry for the delay and thanks again for your precious advise. The leak is on the top of the cover just over the buppy part (hard to describe for a frech guy ;o))that is used has "from my point of view" the pipe that send the oil from the pump to the control.my guess is if this cover gasket is not made to handle a lot of pressure ,and one of my o-ring is leaking, there would be pressure building in that cover and the gaskett would let the oil go out. What is your thinking about that?
I don't know if my english is good enought in that explanation but hey has long as you understand!

PS: is that a big thing removing that pump for service?

Thanks Jack.C

Hi Jack,

There is a pair of internal O-rings on the output of the pump, but they should'nt let the pump have and external leak. The cover only has a paper gasket to control the leaks unless somebody has added and 0-ring maybe.

Could the leak be the center plug??

I am stumped on this one because it definetly is a pressure leak if the pump has to be in gear for the cover to leak.

For any service to the pump you will have to pull the top cover.

Another thought I had is this. If you ran hyd oil this winter and now the weather has warmed up the thinner oil will probly leak anyway. In warm weather you need at least 80W gear oil.

Yep I still have my S-Dexta. I might run the wife off, but I'll hang on to the tractor.:^)

You'll have to pull the top cover to get the pump Jack It's no big sweat to pull.. No sweat on time I'm just watching a tropical depression we're getting pounded.

Yes you are right they Dexta will leak in warm weather with thin oils. I run 80-140 most years all the way through but it hardly ever freezes here. Our low temps stay mostly 35F or so.

If I understand the cover question right and you mean the aux port valve cover it has 8 of the O-rings under it, and they are bad to leak in summer with thin oils.

If you mean the port down by your right foot I always use silicone instead of an O-ring to tap into it.

When we cross thread on English my wife can speak French so let it rip. If the coonass french is anywhere near real French we'll be ok.

Thanks Burrhead!

I think I'll start by changing the oil for 80w140 because right now it is syntetic oil and that could pretty well be the problem. And I just have to put 80w90 for winter. I really hope this is the problem.Do you think that this cover will continue to leak since the oil leak once?

best Regards
Jack.C

It won't nessesarily leak when you change oil Jack.

I have one here that stays wet year round with thick oil but it never lowers the oil or drips any.
