I can not find shunt valve as Adam suggests, The fuel supply comes to carb via one pipe with tap at tank to switch from gas to tvo. I have managed to run for a couple of seconds by spraying gas into manifold direct but the engine is blowing the water out of the water washer! Could it be a valve problem? The tractor was running fine a few days ago but no chance of starting it on crank now.I do not have a manual for an F so am stuck what to do next. All help appreciated.
Cheers, John Yorkshire England

The only time I saw water come out of the air washer on my '23 model F was when it backfired and ran backward for about 4 seconds one time when I forgot to set the timing back. Pulled the crank right out of my hand. Fortunately I didn't have my thumb over the handle.

If you still suspect the valves you can remove the tappet cover from below the manifold and check the springs and retainers. On my tractor I found the valve stem clips had worn through the spring retainer on the #2 cylinder exhaust valve causing a dead miss on that cylinder. Don't be surprised at the sludge in that part of the engine.

After reading your previous post it almost sounds like your fuel mixture needle valve is closed or plugged in your carburetor. Or perhaps the float valve is stuck closed. This would certainly keep fuel from getting to the vaporizer. Open the valve up several turns anyway. You can always turn it back down once it starts. Also, are you absolutely sure the tube between the carb and the vaporizer doesn't have a hole or leak in it?
