I just got a Fordson Dexta, about 1958.
I don't know where to put in oil for the hyd.
I also don't know what weight or what kind of oil to put in.
Any help would be appreciated.

Ford recommends 80W gear oil, but if you are in cold country 30W or 50W oil is fine or even normal hydraulic oil if it's severely cold there where you are.

Over just forward of the pto lever and a few inches above the left foot board is the check plug, you take the plug out and use a gear oil pump to fill it til oil runs out this hole, it's just like filling a car rearend. The differential and hydraulics on a Dexta share the same oil reservoir.

If you don't have a oil pump here's the other easier way.

Standing behind the tractor looking forwards at the differential there is a big plug just to the right rear behind the seat. Pour your oil into this plug hole until oil pours out the side plug hole.

Congrads on your new tractor and good luck. There are several folks around here who know a little something about Dextas and we like to see them still going.

You'r welcome Butch.

This site must have crashed last night. I've been trying to answer you all day so maybe it will work this time.

The hyd oil will do fine. One more thing you might want to do is be sure that the air cleaner basin has winter oil in it too. In cold weather the reg weight engine oil in the breather will smother the engine sometimes.
