What is the value of a super dexta fordson. I'm thinking of buying one. I'm a little worried of getting replacement parts. I also would like to know the performance of these tractors. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.Thank You. DH

I just bought a 63 Super Dexta for $1500. The engine needs a rebuild (sounds terrible, I'm afraid to run it thinking that something is going to slam through the side of the block at any moment). The rest of the tractor is in pretty good shape. Good rubber, good hydraulics, no major dents, rust or hacked up modifications. Looks like $600 will get me most if not all the parts for a rebuild. I still think I did OK, we'll see after I get into the engine.
Good luck,
Ed

Dick,
Value is a nebulous item. A couple of months ago I purchased a 1959 Fordson Dexta. It looked awful! It was a dirty greasy mess with rear tires flat and beyond repair and by normal standards was a disaster. However, my son happened to be with me at the time I looked at this tractor and he is very knowledgeable in large diesel equipment and hydralics, etc. He told me the tractor was in excellent mechanical shape. I gave $2700 for the tractor and a recently refurbished 5' Rhino Groomer Mower. The tractor had been used most recently by a local Catholic Church for mowing the baseball field.

I have invested approximately $900 into the tractor - $600 of which was for new 8ply rear tires & on-site installation. My refurbish included stripping, degreasing, repainting, changing all fluids(62 quarts), filters, radiator hoses, having the seat reupholstered, etc. Additionally, new lights were installed front and rear and all of the components on the console are in working condition except for the proofmeter.
Look deeper than the skin and be aware that Dexta Parts are harder to find. I love the Dexta I have but would probably buy one of the Ford Ns if I were to do it over again. My tractor looks and runs great but it will be replaced by a Ford N if I change in the future. You might review parts availability for the Super Dexta with Walt's Tractor Parts (See Parts & Supplies this site). Good Luck on your decision. The enjoyment of restoring a tractor was new to me and people on this discussion board are outstanding and willing to share their expertise. Joe D. San Antonio
