Frank: You have a very common situation with the Fordson Major Diesel. The exhaust elbow was cast and would not take much vibration or impact from a low hanging tree branch etc. Many are broken at this elbow. Most exhaust manifolds and elbows and, for the most part, the entire engine in usually already gone in scrapyards. Your best bet might be a scrap yard, I know of no remanufactured FMD manifolds. Also, you might call Quality Farm & Country 1 888 828 3276.

As for your serial number... look on the upper right hand front corner of the engine block just below the head. Or, if it is not there, look on the left side of the engine/transmission housing flange... behind the starter motor. If there it will be stamped vertically on the cast flange.

Frank: I am assuming you missed reading the first digit on your serial number: tractor number 1305516 would be an early 1955; built in Dagenham, England. Good luck on that manifold!

Don,
Exhaust elbows are readily available here in the UK. I need one for my Major as, during the 200 mile trip to Newark, I hit a pot hole on one of our fast roads and it broke. Have not had time to get one yet though.
regards
Brian

Hey Brian... ole chap!

Would you please email me with your source for Major exhaust elbows? I could use several. Hmmm.... maybe I should just move to the UK and bring my tractors with me. :-)

Don,
We are coming over the pond next year for about a month. Thinking of hireing a "Winnebago" ( think thats how you spell it)and touring around. Should I start buying spares now? My son will be over in August and is driving down from NY to Florida.
New manifold parts are available from Richard Pocock, Manor Farm, Berwick St John, Shaftsbury, Dorset. SP7 0EX.
tel. (044) (0)1747 828272 Fax.(044)(0)1747 828964.
