This is a repost from yesterday.

I did some research on the "FL" head last night. I will not quote the service letters word for word, just a potted history. These mods also apply to the tractor engine.

"THAMES TRADER FC MK II"" Service letter number 16, 11th July 1962.

Engine Modifications (Diesel Engine).

Hardended valve caps on inlet valves.

Hardend inlet valve spring retainers.

Larger valve rockers.

Thicker Push Rods.

Cylinder Head (6 cylinder diesel only) Quoted word for word.
Inlet ports have been modified to give greater swirl and turbulence to air entering the cylinders. This modification, together with a different type of injector (see section on injectors) ensures better fuel combustion throughout the engine speed range and reduces any tendency to produce exhaust gas smoke.
Increased clearance for the push rod holes is provided.
The current cylinder head Part No 510E-6052-C can be identified by the letters "FL" embossed on the right hand side between Nos. 1 and 2 injectors.

New cylinder head gasket.

Cylinder Block Detail changes not listed and: "To accommodate the "Minimec" Injection pump the exhauster front mounting pad has been lengthened and incorporates two tapped holes for the injection pump rear mounting bolts.

Fuel System.

Minimec Injection pump etc.

"THAMES TRADER FC MK II"" Service letter number 71, 18th December, 1963.

Cylinder Head and Injectors.

Service letter No 16 describes various changes to engine components, including alterations to the 6 cylinder diesel engine cylinder head. Since then, the 4 cylinder diesel cylinder head has also been modified to give greater swirl and turbulence to air entering the cylinders etc etc.

Current cylinder head Part No E1ADDN-6052-J can be identified by the letters "FL" embossed on the right hand side between Nos. 1 and 2 injectors.
