This question pops up every now and then, and I'm still looking for the definitive answer myself. As far as I know (which isn't very far), the following info is correct:
-Two shades of blue were used on Fordsons in the 50's and 60's: dark, almost purple-like on Majors and Dexta's, and a somewhat lighter shade of blue (more like sky-blue) on some Dexta's, particlularly the Super's. Many manufacturers claim to produce "Fordson Blue", but each one has a different colour! For blue, I use the "Fordson Blue" produced by New Holland these days, obtainable simply from the New Holland dealer network. This colour looks very authentic to me, although I've seen Majors that were somewhat darker and Dexta's that were somewhat lighter....
-The orange of the wheels is reportedly the exact same colour as the old Fiat tractors used to have. And that is good news, since Fiat is also a part of New Holland. So again, get this from the New Holland dealer network.

Don't get a local paintshop to mix you a can of paint that looks more or less OK. You need paint that'll withstand the heat of the engine.

I'd like some input from the other Fordson diehards here; perhaps we can put this issue to bed once and for all.

Oscar,
Paint colours for the 1952 to 1964. Light Blue and Orange right through to 1963 then a change to a slightly lighter Blue for the grey wheeled Supers.
Normally the colours were known as New Fordson Major Blue and Super Major Blue. Like you I use the CNH dealer for paint and although it is getting harder to find, there is a significant difference between the two colours. No New Fordson Major was painted in the Dark Blue of the E27N as far as my records show. Some Supers were painted Cream tinwork and SM Blue cast for export to the USA.
regards
Brian

I work for a paint distributor and we have computers available to analyze paint samples to come up with a blendable matching color. The sample needs 4"x6" minimum and be free from any defects, fading, and bright as possible. We have many implement formula's available by some are as you say, close. I'm currently working at matching the blue and orange for the old fordson's. Does any one out there have any old chips, old paint cans, etc.?
Thanks,
Ross
