Hi all.

I"m not a big tractor enthusiast, but I just came into possession of a vintage Fordson gasoline starting tank that appears to be both original and in very good condition. It was in the garage attic of a 100+ year old home my brother bought. He owed me and he knows I love old stuff, so he offered me the tank.

Can anyone tell me the value of this item? It is a little more than 3 feet long, oval, and stamped on both ends - "Fordson Made by Ford Motor Company, Detroit Michigan USA"

I"ve read a couple other posts and it seems this tank might be for a Model F? Like I said, I don"t know anything about tractors, but I"m sure someone out there would love to have this tank for their tractor.

Any replies will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joel

Gee fellers, when I was a young un you could buy a Fordson in fairly good condition for $100. I guess times have changed.
A friend of mine used one in a rocky place one time years ago for a fence post. It kept the draft horses in fine.
There is one not far from here with a tree grown right into it. Maybe I should try to get some photos of it and post them here. Dandy Dave!

Thanks guys! That's good to hear. I'm definitely going to offer it for sale, not sure about e-bay though. I want someone who will appreciate it to get it.

Thanks again or all the assistance!

Joel

Yep, that's a good one. Easily the best I've seen in a long time. You should get top dollar for a tank like that one.

Are you going to list it on eBay? You'll get the most attention from Fordson collectors that way...

That's my 2¢ worth, anyway. (And remember: Advice is all-too-often worth exactly what you pay for it!)

It appears to be in good condition, but I'm no expert. I am also uncertain about the value of the tank. I'll try to take a few photos of it and e-mail them to you if you want. Let me know.

If it's been in attic (dry) storage, it's probably in pretty good condition, certainly restorable/usable.

A tank like this usually brings over $500.00 on eBay, provided there are no dents. (Even rust pinholes are no big deal because the tank can be lined with a plastic-type material to prevent leaks).

That's a nice tank. 1925-28. It is a late Fordson model F tank that has the starting tank at the rear. Like Bruce says, it's worth a few bucks.
