I have a 1927 F with a weak magneto. I read where you use two 12-volt batteries with the aid of a compass to recharge the magneto. I found a web site with a magneto testing and recharging device that was patented in 1924 Link
I>Link don't understand the step using the compass. If anyone would be so kind as to assist me with this, I would appreciate it very much.

Neal, If you look on this site to the left of the page there is a section titled "research and info" Look under "articles" and you will find a pretty good explanation of it. I have done a similar proceedure quite a few times and have had some sucess. However, if the winding is damaged or just plain wore out there is nothing you ca do except split the tractor. The trick is to get the magnet lined up just in the right position. You will need a very sensitive compass.
