Brian, you seem to be the "Gurru" so I thought you may be able to help.

The engine number on my Super Major is supposed to be on the front of the block near the number one injector. It is actualy at the rear near the starter. The number indicates a September 1962 build. The tractor was assembeled at FoMoCo Geelong, Victoria, Australia and the "Official" Australian build date is April 1963 (It has an Australian Build Plate on the fire wall).

The engine block is the later type with the Minimec injector pump. It is not the "New Super Major". Why is the engine number in the wrong spot? I think the tractors were brought in complete minus wheels and tyres.

PS, what model and how many Fordsons do you have?

Regards
Steven

I do not know about the "guru" bit. It's too cold here in England at the moment for the loin cloth.

You sound as if you have what we called an "orange wheeled Super". The later ones of these had the minimec pump but only a single acting lift on draft control. You will also be missing the drop control knob on the front of the hydraulic lift.
This would tie up the difference between the engine number and your Australian build date. Minimecs were fitted from engine number 1613500.

Do not see any problem about the position of the number unless the tractor has had a new block and this was where the number was stamped by the person who fitted it. We used to have to replace blocks due to corrosion around the sleeve seal.

I have a 1952 Fordson Major petrol/paraffin E1ADKN, the same shape as yours. That plus 2 TE20's, an Allis B, two Nuffield 4/65's and a Claas Matador combine plus a collection of ploughs cultivators and planters. I used to be a Ford Master Service tech, then managed a Ford Dealership. Fordson Majors and Nuffields are my favorites though. Brings back my youth :)
regards

Brian
