The one you Re: 59 power major questions in reply to jim wise, 01-22-2008 19:21:49

The one you have would work for a Dexta or lighter tractor but not heavy enough for a Major.
What will work is a cylinder off of either a Yale or Clark forklift of the heavy 4000 lb or 6000 lb cap. The forklift junk yards are full of the needed cylinder with attached valve. But be advised it is not a direct fit as the forklift cyls have heavier attach tapers in the ball joint. You must check cyl travel length of anything you intend to use.

Valve and cyl is Re: 59 power major questions in reply to jim wise, 01-28-2008 19:18:31
Valve and cyl is a single integral part. Its needs no hyd control input. The input control to the steering is through the steering arm from the box. The only hyd lines needed are the pressure and return to the pump. A good pump to use is the ones off Chev/Gmc 1.5T or larger trucks 1960 up. These are readily available at most truck wreckers,

You may also want to try Re: 59 power major questions in reply to jim wise, 01-30-2008 09:24:55

You may also want to try some of the tractor junk yards. Look for the one off of a Ford row crop trike, I believe the steering cyl off of these to be identical to the FMD cyl and valve but am not sure. I think the only problem may be expensive if found as all the tractor yards seem to be MUCH over priced. Most ALL the mentioned Clark FLs had PS on them, and have good parts support for their stuff. Some models also had a good pump type that was fitted to the back of the gen/alt. The use of one of these types of pumps would simplify the pump mounting on a FMD, but be aware the repair of these gen/alts/pump can be real expensive.

Thought the steering wheel would only go so far on the spline on the worm drive,The Super has one large diameter washer on the steering wheel then two smaller ones held with a dome nut.The FMD has one only.Wonder if its pulling the worm drive upwards?. You could experiment and cut a nut in two, adjust it with one and use the other as a lock nut.or am I the nut?.
