New tires having rims sandblasted and repainted. What color orange is original? Tire size 13.6-38 is this correct size? Where is a good site to find out the actual mfg. date? Thanks for the help guys.

Steffen,
The first New Major was 1217101, so yours is a pretty early one. If you post your serial number on Fordson Tractor Pages, someone there will tell you the year and month it was made.
Here's a link.

Where did you find your Major? I have always wanted one, maybe some day I'll succeed in finding a good one! I remember a year out of high school seeing one sell at a local farm auction for about $550....very nice shape...but that was back in 1971! I was an impoverished college student at the time, so had to enviously watch the new buyer take it home. In my area (southern Minnesota) they were well known for their excellent fuel economy.

we found it in madison wisconsin area her grandfater passed and we bought it from her grandmother kinda a keep sake the tin is in very good condition only a couple rust spots where the metal was doubled for the headlight on the front grill and the fenders need to be resupported the supports have rusted off but the rest of them are pretty straight. otherwise everything else on it is just surface.

Is yours a row-crop model? Those came with tires that size, or 12.4 x38's. I believe the general-purpose Major's had 16 x30's standard on the back, or something very close to that. As for the orange on the wheels, I'm not sure of the exact shade.

Thanks for the info I printed a picture of one that was painted up off of the internet, we are just going to try to match it as close as we can there wasn't much for a good paint match left on any part of the rim and who is going to know anyway?

I think you'll find more information if you look at the archives. I found that Brockway Orange was close. Some say it's pretty close to JI Case orange(Flambeau Red). Tends to turn yellow with age.
My neighbor has a narrow front end, but he didn't think far enough ahead and should have gotten the rear rims too.
